Pakistan’s Agro-Economy
Cane To Sugar
Pakistan ranks among the top five countries in the world in terms of sugarcane cultivation area. Sugarcane is the primary raw material for sugar production and plays a vital role in the country’s agro-based economy. Since 1947, the area under sugarcane cultivation has expanded more rapidly than any other major crops, surpassing one million hectares in recent years.
Pakistan’s sugar industry remained one of the country’s largest agricultural sectors, with Punjab and Sindh accounting for around 93% of total sugarcane production. Sugarcane farming and sugar manufacturing contribute significantly to the national exchequer. Sugarcane by-products contribute significantly to foreign exchange earnings. Despite a planned increase in sugarcane area, actual sugar yield fell short of expectations due to slower sucrose recovery and inconsistent crushing performance throughout the season. Total sugar output for the 2024-25 season was 5.8 MT.

White Refined Sugar
White Refined Sugar is the most sellable form of sugar, produced from sugarcane. After harvesting, sugarcane is transported to a sugar processing plant to be pressed. The flavor of white refined sugar is relatively neutral, making it a popular choice for baking and sweetening drinks. This type of sugar tends to be more sticky and clumpy because of the increased moisture. In the season of 2024-2025, Fatima Sugar Mills Limited produced 135,600 MT of White Refined Sugar.

Molasses
Molasses is a thick, brown to deep black, honey-like substance made when cane or beet sugar is processed. Molasses has somewhat more nutritional value than white or brown sugar. It is used primarily in alcohol and food items. For the year 2024-2025, Fatima Sugar Mills Limited produced 59,555 MT of Molasses.
